Have you put on weight during lockdown, or found yourself out of routine and not even using the home gym you set up?
If you have, it may bring you some comfort to know that I have done the same. As soon as businesses and places started to open up again, I found myself getting back to the busy life. Many times, I have had to sit down and re-evaluate my routine and weekly diary. Even after all of this, sometimes my workout would be the thing to be dropped. I still focused on moving every day and carried out my usual routine – but I also aimed for at least two gym sessions per week, and this wasn’t happening.
This week, I decided to invest in a gym membership, even though I have all the equipment and knowledge to carry out my session. What I needed, and I believe we all do, is accountability, investment and enjoyment. I signed up to RAW Performance in Omagh for these exact reasons. Like all the brilliant gyms and personals trainers we have in this area, I knew the team at RAW would keep me accountable.
I made a financial investment which will also help keep me accountable and find enjoyment. A few of my mates have signed up to the same gym, and we will train together, plus, I have trained with Johnny, co-owner of the gym, many times and enjoy the banter. The bonus is that I get to help his business grow.
One thing that lockdown has taught us is that we crave interaction. We went mad for Zoom and FaceTime. Now we have the opportunity to interact face-to-face, it would be wise to make sure you are investing in the right people.
Your investment doesn’t have to be financial. Speaking to experts in the area you want to improve on could help you reach your goals. Even if you are investing in healthy meals, you are still investing in people.
It took someone’s expert knowledge and time so that you can enjoy a nutritious meal that will help you reach your health and fitness goals.
The beauty of investing in people for one goal, in this case, your health and fitness goal, will also help you improve in other areas and objectives you have set up. When we interact and connect with people, we build relationships, trust, and share ideas related to other goals. For example, if you invest in a personal trainer, you are getting someone with expert knowledge in helping your reach a target weight or performance goal. Because you will be working with this person closely, you may find that they can share advice or connect you with people to help you reach other business and personal goals.
And vice versa – you may also help your trainer in areas with specialised knowledge to help their business and personal life. It’s a win-win for everyone.
