I’m just back from a great week in Cork. I enjoyed it after a fantastic summer filled with coaching at camps and other trips here and there.
One thing I found harder to keep up with was my gym routine. Yes, I kept myself active, but I did miss my routine.
I am getting straight into a gym session at RAW Performance in Omagh, instead of letting it slide any more.
This is all well and good, but I also have plans to make sure I get back on track.
If you have had a summer of fun, here are a few ways to help you transition into the autumn and winter months.
LOOK FOR INDOOR ACTIVITIES
I’m a big fan of being active outdoors, and I will continue to do so throughout the year, but I will also add in a few more activities that I can do indoors.
Attending a yoga class, going to the swimming pool more or even badminton are all great indoor activities.
Hopefully, when it comes to autumn and winter, the rules and regulations will enable us to enjoy our indoor activities once more.
AIM FOR A SPRINGTIME CHALLENGE
Have a target to aim for that will help you train during the winter months.
It might be a run, tough mudder, body-building or charity event you want to compete in.
If you aim for something in spring 2022, it will help you focus on your winter training.
EAT SEASONALLY
We still have a while to go yet, but you’ll soon have the soup back on the stove. Eating vegetables and fruits that are in season helps supply your body with the vitamins and minerals it needs to survive those winter colds or flu.
INVEST IN GOOD CLOTHING
You can already see the days and nights getting shorter and a bit colder. But this doesn’t mean you have to take every part of your daily movement indoors.
Invest in suitable clothing for all weather conditions and also some high-vis for those evening runs.
EXPLORE THE SAME PLACES DURING A DIFFERENT SEASON
If you have been out and about this summer, enjoying everything this beautiful country has to offer, then make plans to revisit some scenic locations at a different time of the year.
From the cool crisp air, snowy mountain tops or colours of the leaves, you can see the same place from a totally different perspective.
