The gyms are finally open, and it’s great to see.
We all love and need social interaction without a screen, but for some, it may not be such a smooth transition back to our ‘normal’ ways.
Even though we want to get out and about, online was convenient and felt safe for people working out at home.
In the beginning, online may not have felt uncomfortable, and you may have been resisting it at the start, but that’s just the natural reaction to change.
Over the past year, we may have gone through the whole process of changing to online, and now we have to go full circle back to getting ready to leave the house and work out.
Suppose you see people posting on social media saying it’s ‘great to be back in the gym’, but you’re not really feeling the same and that’s okay.
Personally, I have struggled with the transition of delivering most of our sessions during lockdown online to now organising coaches and myself to get out into school to coach.
I’m having to change my whole diary and planning and have found it tough.
If this is something you feel that you may be struggling with, either in your personal or professional life, then we can take a strategic look at how we can make the change a lot smoother.
Here is a step-by-step process you may want to try:
1. PREPARE FOR CHANGE
First of all, you may need to address the areas you need to change and raise awareness of the various challenges or problems that you may face.
You may have to get up earlier in the morning or schedule dinner time a bit later to get your workout in at
the gym.
2. CRAFT A VISION AND PLAN FOR CHANGE
Once you have looked at the areas you need to change, have a vision and plan of what you want it to look
like and work on putting it in place.
A good place to start is restructuring your diary. Ask the family what activities they plan on doing once everything starts to open up and add this into your diary, too.
Then set specific times and dates in which you are going to reach the goals that you have set.
3. IMPLEMENT THE CHANGES
Now you have done all the planning, and the next step is putting it into action.
Don’t worry if you have to make tweaks along the way, but keep taking action on your plan.
Soon you will have a system in place that will help implement the changes you wanted to happen.
4. REVIEW PROGRESS
Give it at least a week before you start to review and make changes.
It may take longer for some things to fall into place, but be patient.
If you feel that something isn’t working at all, then don’t be disheartened.
Just make a small change and keep tweaking it until you get it right.
It’s brilliant to see the gyms finally open again.
