Janice’s special birthday fundraiser

OMAGH Credit Union staff member Janice O’Brien will mark her 60th birthday by taking on a charity skydive, with all funds raised going to Air Ambulance NI.

This daring challenge is part of the credit union’s ‘60 Random Acts of Kindness’ initiative and is dedicated to the memory of former Omagh Credit Union chairman, Frank Loughran.

Janice told the Ulster Herald she wanted to celebrate turning 60 by doing something memorable and out of her comfort zone.

After some thought, she chose to skydive in aid of the Air Ambulance.

This isn’t Janice’s first adventure to mark a milestone birthday. When she turned 40, she and members of staff from Omagh Credit Union climbed Ben Nevis, the highest peak in the British Isles. Inspired by Omagh Credit Union’s own 60th birthday celebrations and the 60 Random Acts of Kindness campaign, Janice saw this as a perfect way to honour both the credit union’s anniversary and her own special day.

Janice will make her jump tomorrow (June 6) at Skydive Ireland in Garvagh.

“I really wanted to mark turning 60 by doing something completely different,” she said.

“The Credit Union’s kindness initiative inspired me, and I thought it was a great way to celebrate both anniversaries.”

Janice also has a personal connection to the Air Ambulance charity.

The Air Ambulance NI crew were first on the scene and provided critical care to former Omagh Credit Union Chairman Frank Loughran, who passed away last year.

Air Ambulance NI operates the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) in partnership with the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.

This vital service provides urgent medical assistance across the North, operating seven days a week, 12 hours a day.

The HEMS team respond to emergencies twice daily on average, delivering advanced pre-hospital care to critically ill or injured patients with the aim of saving lives, brains, and limbs.
