New audio-tour series showcases Tyrone’s landscapes

IN a new and exciting series – not dissimilar to our very own Danders On Your Doorstep feature – Tourism NI have created an audio tour through the ancient and varied landscapes of Tyrone.

Bronagh Waugh – star of the hit series Derry Girls and The Fall – is the narrator of the ‘Soothing Stories’ episode which covers Tyrone and the Fermanagh Lakelands.

Starting points don’t come more spectacular than the Hill of the O’Neill in Dungannon – which was once the seat of power in Ulster. From there, the listener is swept along to the rolling hills and peaks of the Sperrin Mountains and through the mystical prehistoric landscapes including Beaghmore Stone Circles.

In the neighbouring Davagh Forest, there is the opportunity for some star gazing at the OM Dark Sky Park and Observatory before entering the brave new world at the Ulster American Folk Park outside Omagh.

Tourism NI say Tyrone has a central role in their enchanting ‘Soothing Stories’ from Northern Ireland series.

Actress Bronagh Waugh said she hoped the audio-tour will transport the listener to the huge array of stunning locations across the North.

“It has been a real joy to be part of the Soothing Stories from Northern Ireland, telling the unique tales and describing the beautiful wonders of our land in a very moving way,” she said.

“When I come home, I am always surprised by the new and unique experiences here to discover, but I also still enjoy visiting my old, favourite spots and regularly make it back to Mussenden Temple, Dunluce Castle and of course a brisk walk on Portstewart Strand to let the wild Atlantic air blow the cobwebs away.

“The stories have been written and produced in such a calming and lulling way, I hope listeners can really relax, transport themselves in their mind to these landscapes and embrace the giant spirit of Northern Ireland, particularly at a time when our travel is limited.”

As well as the aforementioned treasures of Tyrone, listeners can also stride through the Narnia-inspired Mourne Mountains, Armagh’s blossoming orchards, the Fermanagh Lakelands, the walled city of Derry~Londonderry, the Causeway Coastal Route, Belfast City and the Ards Peninsula.

The stories have been written by author and acclaimed travel writer, Seth Linder, from his home in Rostrevor, County Down.

Tourism NI, director of marketing, Naomi Waite said, “At a time when people can’t experience this place for themselves, we hope the Soothing Stories from Northern Ireland will bring a little of our giant spirit to you, reminding people of the beauty of our places and the truly unique heritage and experiences here.

“We are so proud of our tourism industry and our people who help make Northern Ireland such a special place. They have been central to our remarkable journey to becoming a global destination.”
