Local tourism gallops forward with horse trail

A NEW equestrian trail at a popular Tyrone forest park has received the seal of approval from the British Horse Society.

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council chair, Errol Thompson, was presented with the Access Achievement Award for the new development at Gortin Glen.

George Bradshaw, who works for the local council, was the driving force behind the development of the equestrian trail in the Glens.

The citation from the British Horse Society states, “With the dangers of riding horses on the roads continuing to be an issue for horse riders the Gortin Glen Equestrian Trail provides a safe haven to exercise horses free from the anxiety of traffic.

“The British Horse Society has been delighted to support this project with technical information and guidance to ensure this trail is suited to the needs of horse riders.

“We have also been delighted to provide part funding, from the BHS Ride Out Fund, for the superb mounting block in the car park.”

The citation adds, “Not only will this trail support local horse riders but it will also support Northern Ireland tourism and the wider equestrian community with horse riders travelling from further afield to use this facility.

“We look forward to hearing about the events and rides that take place, both for horses, cyclists, and walkers together in this forest.”
