Dromore woman delighted with fundraiser response

A DROMORE woman who has raised over £2,000 for Pieta House in memory of her cousin has been overwhelmed by people’s generosity.

Grainne Sludden (20) from Dromore has raised £2,830 for mental health and suicide prevention charity Pieta House in memory of her late cousin Eimear Sludden from Dromore who passed away when she was 19.

Grainne, a former pupil of Loreto Grammar School and St Macartan’s Primary School, Dullaghan decided to set up a fundraiser after she saw an appeal from the charity on their social media for donations as they were experiencing a loss in funding as the annual ‘Darkness Into Light’ walk had been postponed.

Grainne posted a fundraiser on Facebook, and has raised £2,830 for Pieta House.

Speaking to the UlsterHerald, she said, “Mental health is everyone’s business and it did receive great attention so I hope through my fundraiser that if anything, there is an increased awareness surrounding mental health.

“Pieta House do great work and I have heard many success stories as a result of their work.

“They really deserve the recognition for the time and energy they put into helping people.

“I would like to say thank you to every single person who donated and those who shared my fundraiser and helped publicise it.

“Without them I wouldn’t have reached the total I did for the charity, I’m so grateful and appreciate all the support.

“I’m so delighted with the money raised, it really exceeded all my expectations and it is all down to the generosity of people.

“It’s fantastic people got behind such a worthy cause and it’s great to see mental health means just as much to other people as it means to me,” concluded Grainne.
