Driver caught speeding at 96mph ‘didn’t want to be late for the cinema’

A MAN has been caught speeding by officers in icy conditions because “he didn’t want to be late for the cinema,” police have said.

Officers spotted the man driving at 96mph (36mph above the speed limit) on the Clanabogan Road in Omagh on Friday.

Drivers were urged to drive cautiously on Friday after much of the Omagh area was blanketed in snow with cold and icy conditions on the roads.

Writing on Facebook, a police spokesperson said the man is set to “premiere before a local magistrate”.
