Events organised to remember ‘beautiful angel’ Gemma

TWO charity events have been organised to honour and remember ‘beautiful angel’ Gemma McHale.

Forever remembered by those who knew her,  the 20-year-old, who was from the Castlederg area, was tragically killed in a car accident in Co Fermanagh in May 2012. In her memory, the McHale family host events such as these annually as a way to bring the community together in friendship and exercise, to help raise funds for important local causes, and to keep Gemma at the forefront of everyone’s minds.

To date, the family have raised hundreds of thousands of pounds and counting – proof that Gemma is not, and never will be, forgotten.

Next Friday, April 25, people are being encouraged to pop on their favourite running shoes and invite their friends to take part in a special ‘Memorial 5k Walk/Run’, which will meander through some of the county’s most scenic parts.

Commencing at the Aghyaran Centre, the race will be begin at 7.30pm sharp with delicious refreshments served afterwards. People are encouraged to arrive at least an hour early for registration purposes.

Then on Sunday, May 4, intrepid adventurers are being welcomed to Aghyaran once more – this time, to take part in a 35-mile cycle.

Taking place at Aghyaran Centre, ‘Gemma’s Memorial Cycle’ will commence at 10am sharp, with registration from 9am that morning.

As an added bonus, excellent spot prizes can be won on the day, with refreshments served both before and after the cycle for the comfort of attendees.

All proceeds raised during Gemma’s memorial run and cycle will we split between a number of worthy charities and causes, including helping to fund counselling in local primary schools, charities that provide support to those affected by Multiple Sclerosis and cancer, and used to aid charity events locally.
