HUNDREDS of bikers from across Ireland are set to descend on Omagh next month for the 11th annual Basil McKane Rideout.
The event is a powerful tribute to a much-loved local motorbike enthusiast and a key fundraiser for lifesaving charity work.
Taking place on Sunday, May 4, the event has become a firm fixture in the biking calendar, traditionally held the weekend before the North West 200 road race.
Riders will gather at Omagh Bus Depot from 9.30am, with a charity raffle kicking things off at 11am, just before departure.
The rideout commemorates Basil McKane, who tragically passed away in 2014 at the age of 51.
Since then, the event held in his name has raised over £30,000 for local charities and continues to unite the biking community in remembrance and generosity.
This year, funds will go towards Air Ambulance Northern Ireland, a vital service that provides pre-hospital emergency care across the region.
With rapid response times – reaching any location in the six counties within 25 minutes – the service is often a lifeline for those seriously injured in road traffic collisions, farm and workplace accidents, sporting incidents, and other medical emergencies.
The Air Ambulance relies heavily on public donations to keep flying, making the rideout’s contribution all the more meaningful.
Kyle McKane, Basil’s son and one of the rideout’s organisers, expressed heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported the event over the years.
“Last year, we had over 160 riders take part,” Kyle said. “Over the last 11 years, we’ve raised more than £30,000 in dad’s memory and we’re proud to continue that legacy this year.”
He added that the 2025 rideout has received generous backing from Briggs Equipment, official sponsors of the North West 200, along with a host of local businesses contributing prizes and donations.
The route will cover 110 miles of scenic roads, finishing at the iconic Joey’s Bar in Ballymoney, promising a memorable day of camaraderie, remembrance and community spirit.
“It’s always a special day,” Kyle said. “We’re looking forward to seeing plenty of familiar faces – and hopefully a few new ones too.”
