A GROUP of compassionate and creative pupils from St Ciaran’s College, Ballygawley, have delivered a significant boost to a local charity supporting people with learning disabilities and autism.
Omagh-based performing arts charity Skyzdalimit was recently presented with a cheque for £2,000, raised through the school’s annual charity initiative.
Now in its ninth year, the programme invites Year 10 students to research and advocate for a charity of their choice, competing for a top prize sponsored by local accountant Kieran Magill.
The winning team – Ella Boyd, Caitlin O’Hanlon, Anna Kerr, and Aine McRory –chose Skyzdalimit as their charity, delivering a powerful and professional presentation to secure the award.
There was a personal connection, too: team member Caitlin O’Hanlon is a cousin of Skyzdalimit performer Paul O’Hanlon, making the cause even closer to the group’s hearts.
Skyzdalimit treasurer Lisa McCaul praised the girls’ passion and presentation.
“Their enthusiasm when meeting our members was clear, and we were thrilled when Caitlin contacted us with the news,” she said. “The cheque for £2,000 is an incredible boost ahead of our upcoming show, ‘Love Me, Love Me Not’, which premieres at the Strule Arts Centre in Omagh on June 20.
”We’re also hopeful we’ve gained some future volunteers – everyone is welcome!”
St Ciaran’s principal Paul Lavery commended the students for their dedication.
“This initiative allows our pupils to advocate for causes close to their hearts and embodies our school’s value of service,” he said. “It empowers them to use their voices for the benefit of others. We are immensely proud of their efforts and the difference they’re making in our community.”
Sponsor Kieran Magill also highlighted the value of the programme. “It’s a fantastic way to develop young people’s presentation skills while raising awareness and support for local charities,” he said.
“We’re proud to support it year after year.”
