THROUGHOUT the month of September, symbolic colours will shine upon the Strule Arts Centre to mark the arrival of significant dates.
On Friday, September 1, Omagh’s foremost culture forum will be illuminated red to mark the start of Blood Cancer Awareness Month, which aims to raise awareness and understanding of blood cancers.
Then the following day, the building will be bathed in teal to mark World Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) Day, which heralds the start of PCOS Awareness Month, which was created to increase awareness around the condition, and to help improve the lives of those who suffer from it.
Then on Friday, September 15, the lights will go green for International Myotonic Dystrophy Awareness Day – an occasion designed to create conversation around myotonic dystrophy, which is the most common form of adult muscular dystrophy in NI.
Monday, September 18, marks the start of Good Relations Week.
Coordinated by the Community Relations Council, Good Relations Week aims to deliver a positive message of togetherness for local people, and celebrates peace-building and cultural diversity in an effort to eradicate sectarianism, racism and inequality across Northern Ireland.
To mark its arrival, the Strule Arts Centre will glow yellow.
On Thursday, September 21, purple lights will represent the arrival of World Alzheimer’s Day.
Then, on Sunday, September 24, the Strule Arts Centre will be illuminated pink for Organ Donation Week, which this year organisers hope to persuade 25,000 more people to register as donors.
And, finally, on Tuesday, September 26, Leukodystrophy Awareness Month begins.
When the Strule Arts Centre lights up blue, it should serve as a reminder that this annual event has arrived, providing a time for everyone affected by Leukodystrophy to come together and raise awareness of this genetic disorder that primarily affects the central nervous system white matter.
