Having a high staff retention is a key component of having a successful business and a successful work force that will constantly and consistently achieve. Achievement is key to improvement, improvement gives way to growth, and growth leads to further success.
The key is to look after your employees, Richard Branson had it right when he advised everyone to put their employees first, because if you look after your employees, then they will look after your clients. In short, a happy workforce is a productive workforce. You will get more out of your employees if you treat them well, they will give more to your customers, and your customers will give more to you. Sounds like an easy peasy formula, yet so many employers seem to get it wrong.
They key things to remember are:
Hire the right people
Hire people that meet your criteria and hire people that fit into the company in terms of personality. Even if someone is good on paper, another candidate’s drive and attitude might make them the better candidate.
Invest in your staff
Listen to them and what skills they want to acquire through your employment. Invest in them and their skills, send them on courses so that they can perform better. Reward them with opportunities and with appreciation.
Pay well & remember bonuses
Yes it is nice to be appreciated and rewarded with gratitude, but financial rewards are also important. Although it may sound a tad shallow and a little conceited, money is what we work for, so make sure your staff aren’t struggling to meet ends meet.
