Declan’s requiem mass was held in the Immaculate Conception in Ballygawley, where he lived with his family for many years.

Speaking at his funeral, was Errigal parish priest, Very Reverend Michael O’Dwyer.

“Declan Quinn lived in many worlds. There was the world that was Carrickmore where he was born and grew up. He was an acclaimed footballer was part of that three in a row team – a feat that was celebrated only last year,” said Fr O’Dwyer.

Fr O’Dwyer concluded, “Much has been made of the Carrickmore friendship and rivalry on and off the field of play. Declan’s loyalty was always to Carrickmore, his heart however was stole by Margaret from Errigal and in the end Errigal claims him as he remains a part of the Errigal soil and world.”

Declan’s granddaughter, Maggie, sang a beautiful rendition of ‘Can you feel the love tonight?’ by Elton John during the requiem mass which prompted an ovation from all in attendance.
