FOLLOWING the success of Omagh’s first ever pride parade last year the organisers are holding a public meeting on this year’s event.
The Omagh Pride committee is inviting LGBTQ+ people and allies to attend the meeting and get involved in making this year’s parade “even bigger and better” than last year’s inaugural event.
Lorraine Montague, the group’s chairperson, said, “Last year’s Omagh Pride was an incredibly positive and important event, both a protest and a celebration. We want to build on that to make this year’s event even bigger and better.
“If you would like to perform or to help out in any way, big or small, we want you to get involved. We’re inviting people to attend this welcoming and family-friendly meeting to find out how they can do just that.”
The meeting will take place on Tuesday March 22 at 7.30pm in Omagh Community House. It will also be possible to take part via Zoom, with the link posted on Omagh Pride’s social media.
The first Omagh Pride parade in September last year saw hundreds of people take to the streets of the town in a colourful and lively display, with hundreds more lining the streets to cheer them on.
The organisers aim for it to become an annual event which promotes LGBTQ+ equality, expression and visibility in the local area.
This year’s event is scheduled to take place on Saturday September 10.
