FIRST Tyrone Scouts were presented with certificates following an expert training programme hosted by Dungannon Sub Aqua Club.
Ten members of the 1st Tyrone Scouts finally earned their Introductory Snorkelling certificates on Wednesday following a ten week programme in Dungannon Leisure Centre.
Club Chairman and trainer Aidan Abernethy said, “Snorkelling is an essential skill in diving, but it’s also something that’s great fun to do on holiday, this gives the kids the skills and the confidence to go out into the water and enjoy themselves.”
The course covered all the essential snorkelling skills plus some basic first aid, earning the Scouts their accreditation through Diving Ireland, a member of the World Underwater Federation CMAS.
“With the Club being a charity there was a minor fee that went into the Club funds,” Aidan continued.
“So I want to thank our divers who volunteered their time to help with the training. Everyone agrees that these were a great group of kids and we really enjoyed having the opportunity to train them, we know that they enjoyed learning the new skill and maybe some will come back in a few years to take their training further.”
Dungannon Sub Aqua Club Search and Recovery was founded in 1986 and became a registered charity in 2015, and is a cross community, cross border scuba diving organisation whose members do everything from recreational diving to undersea clean-ups and mapping, diving training, and Search & Recovery operations.
