Fivemiletown PS is top of the class

Fivemiletown Primary School has been named the ‘Best School in Tyrone.’

Fivemiletown PS and Nursery Unit clinched the title at the Families First NI Education Awards 2023, which was held at Titanic Belfast.

The school also received Special Recognition awards for Florence Pryce in the Best Principal/Vice Principal category and Heather Graydon in the Best Teacher category.

UTV weatherman Frank Mitchell compered the ceremony and announced the winners of the different categories on the night.

The whole community in Fivemiletown are extremely proud of this school, which is in the heart of the community. It has been growing in numbers year-on-year and now has 212 pupils.

“To be recognised at such a prestigious event was an honour,” Mrs Pryce said.

Mrs Graydon, who is vice-principal and teaches P2 at the school, added, “We were completely overwhelmed and filled with great pride with the volume of touching and positive comments that many parents and members of the community submitted as part of the voting process for the Families First Awards. Thank you to all who nominated the school.

“We are proud to be a centre of nurture and support for our children and their families.”

The Families First NI Education Awards recognise and honour schools who go that extra mile to provide support to families and children in their care.

But it is not just going that extra mile that gained the school this special recognition, it is about excellence in education.
