LOCAL runner, Ivor Russell, has presented a cheque for over £4,000 to a children’s cancer charity after generating the amazing sum by completing the London Marathon.
The Seskinore man completed the event in October, and is delighted with the support he received for the Young Lives v Cancer organisation.
The charity helps children, young people and their families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them.
Ivor said, “Everyone is touched by cancer sometime in their life and especially with children cancer can be very cruel, so I was happy to take on the challenge and was privileged to be chosen by this amazing charity to support their vital work and run the London Marathon 2022. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supported me with donations.”
Young Lives v Cancer is the UK’s leading cancer charity for young people and their families – providing practical, emotional, and financial support to families affected by childhood cancer across Northern Ireland helping them to get the most out of life. In 2014, the charity opened its first home from home called ‘Paul’s House, which is close to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children and provides free accommodation for families and there also now a second home for young people aged 16-24 to stay when receiving treatment.
Ivor added, “Young Lives rely almost entirely on voluntary donations for funding and my fundraising will go towards helping over 400 young people from Northern Ireland who are facing cancer diagnoses and help them get the most from Life.”
