Rotary Tree of Remembrance to help children’s cancer charity

THOUSANDS of pounds have been raised by the Rotary Club of Omagh over the years and the club once again brought festive spirit and heartfelt remembrance to the town with its annual Christmas Tree of Remembrance charity appeal.

This cherished initiative gave people across Omagh and the surrounding area the opportunity to write personal messages in memory of friends and loved ones. Each message was then lovingly attached to the tree, creating a powerful symbol of community, reflection and hope during the holiday season.

Funds raised will support a variety of Rotary good causes and the Cancer Fund for Children, a charity dedicated to helping children and young people (aged 0 – 24) diagnosed with cancer, or living with a parent facing cancer.

The organisation’s mission is to ensure that no child or young person has to face cancer alone. It provides vital emotional, practical, and therapeutic support, empowering families to cope with the challenges cancer brings.

The charity also extends its care to bereaved families, helping them navigate the pain of losing a child or parent.

Volunteers from Omagh Rotary Club and the Omagh Ladies Inner Wheel were on hand to collect donations and messages at the entrance to Asda Omagh last Thursday and Friday.

Referring to the charity appeal Omagh Rotary Club president, Ronald Oldcroft, emphasised that the Tree of Remembrance was not only a fundraiser but also a chance for the community to come together in solidarity, honouring loved ones while supporting children and families in need.

“As Christmas approaches, the Tree of Remembrance stands as a beacon of compassion, reminding us all that through fellowship and generosity, we can make a lasting difference.

“May I thank you for your support and wish everyone a happy, healthy and peaceful Christmas,” he added.
