Strabane emigrant stories to be told at history lecture tonight

THE 2024/25 season of lectures from the Strabane Historical Society comes to a close tonight (Thursday) with a talk on the influence of Ulster Scots in America, with an emphasis on people from the local area.

Following on from last month’s talk, which saw a packed audience listen to Brian Mitchell talk about local migration from the Port of Derry, Dr Patrick Fitzgerald, from Mellon Centre for Migration Studies in Omagh, will give a lecture on the ‘Ulster Scots Movement to America’ with particular reference to the North West. In particular Dr Fitzgerald’s discussion will include emigrant stories from Strabane and other towns and villages form the locale.

As ever, the talk takes place at the Strabane Brass Band Rooms on John Wesley Street with a start time of 7.30pm and anyone who is interested in hearing tales of the Ulster Scots migration to the New World is encouraged to attend for what will be a great conclusion to this year’s programme.
