Tributes to Omagh man ‘knew and loved’ by many people

A YOUNG man who passed away suddenly has been remembered as a ‘caring and devoted’ son, brother and partner.

Shane (Duds) Duddy, aged 26, of Fox Park, Drumnakilly, was the beloved son of Pamela and Shane, loving stepson of Derek and Michelle, and a caring brother to Caolan, Jamie, Jack, Chloe and the late Brandon. He was also partner of Nicole.

At his Requiem Mass in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Beragh, Fr Sean McCartan paid tribute to Shane’s ‘cheerful’ and ‘cheeky’ nature.

He said that Shane had followed his passion for practical work into the electrical trade.

Fr McCartan also described how he took pride in his car – affectionately referred to as his ‘Mazdaratti’ – jokingly adding that Shane didn’t always know how to look after it.

“Shane’s passion wasn’t for academia, (as) he was more drawn towards using his hands and he turned towards the electrical trade.

“Apparently he was especially proud of his Mazdaratti – but he barely knew how to open the bonnet or God forbid, change a wheel, even in spite of what he learned from his doting grandfathers Joe and Noel.”

Fr McCatan continued: “These are only glimpses of the young man so many knew and loved. We are always much more than we seem and much richer than we dare to reveal.

“It’s his parents, Nicole, and all his brothers and sisters who will feel the deep void Shane has left. They will miss his cheerful ways, his cheeky humour, his loyalty, and his kindness. It’s not easy to make sense of, and not easy to come to terms with.”

Following Shane’s passing, a spokesperson for the Culmore and O’Kane Residents Association in Omagh, said: “We wish to express our deepest condolences to the Duddy and Maguire family on the passing of Shane Duddy.

“Words can’t express the heartbreak that is being felt throughout our wee park.

“Shane grew up in O’Kane Park and was never without a smile. We hope that Shane’s family and friends find comfort from one another in the hard days ahead.”
