High praise for Brian’s forthcoming novel

JUST over a month away from publication, local author Brian McGilloway’s latest novel is attracting high praise from his contemporaries.

‘The Last Crossing’, to be released by The Dome Press on April 2, is described as “a story about memory, love, guilt and the consequences of violence.”

Previously stating that he was delighted to be joining Dome for the publication, Brian McGilloway this week outlined his further joy at the reaction from two of the best known names in modern crime, Jane Casey and Ian Rankin.

Best known for his Rebus novels, Ian Rankin is a multi-award winning Scottish writer who was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2016.

Jane Casey is an Irish crime writer with 16 novels to her name. Her first book, The Missing, was shortlisted for the Ireland AM Crime Fiction Award.

On Brian McGilloway’s latest novel she said, “[A] superb book… thoughtful and insightful, wrenching and utterly compelling.

“It says something truly profound and universal about love, loyalty and revenge… If you want to understand Northern Ireland, or any society that has experienced conflict, put it on your list.”

Ian Rankin remarked, “Poetic, humane and gripping… reminded me of Bernard MacLaverty’s early work. Yes, it’s that good.”

Responding to this high praise, Brian McGilloway remarked, “I’m thrilled with this from Jane Casey and Ian Rankin.

“I’ve been so lucky and so grateful to so many of my fellow writers for their support for The Last Crossing. The book will be out on April 2 but will be available the week before at Noireland in Belfast, where I’ll be In Conversation with Ann Cleeves.”

Brian’s first novel, Borderlands, published by Macmillan New Writing, was shortlisted for the CWA New Blood Dagger 2007 and was hailed by The Times as “one of (2007’s) most impressive debuts.”

The first DS Lucy Black novel, Little Girl Lost, became an Amazon Kindle No 1 Bestseller in 2013 and was a New York Times and USA Today bestseller in 2014.

Two further novels featuring Lucy Black have also been published; Hurt in 2013 and Preserve the Dead in 2015.  The fourth Lucy Black novel, Bad Blood, was released in May 2017.
