Young Omagh singers feature on Tyrone star’s new album

HANDWRITTEN hymns, self-penned songs and inspirational pieces will take pride of place on Malachi Cush’s seventh album which releases at the end of the week.

Titled ‘Healing Sounds’, the Donaghmore folk singer is known for bringing warmth and sincerity to traditional Irish ballads and cherished folk songs.

A nod to people who have overcome trauma, half of the album’s songs are written or arranged by Malachi, while the other half includes hymns and uplifting pieces; each chosen for their deep significance.

A body of work shaped by ten years of both loss and joy, a reflection of faith, resilience, and renewal, Healing Sounds marks Malachi’s first studio release in a decade, and it is one that carries great personal weight.

The album is enriched by a series of remarkable collaborations. Malachi is joined by long-time friend Karl McGuckin, the celebrated soprano Jolene O’Hara, the legendary Joanne Cash, and the Omagh Community Youth Choir.

Malachi’s career spans more than two decades, from his breakthrough on the inaugural series of BBC’s ‘Fame Academy’ in 2002 to his chart-topping debut album and Gold disc award.

His music has taken him from Ireland to the United States, the UK, and Europe, with highlights such as sold-out concerts at Armagh Cathedral and a performance at St Patrick’s Cathedral on New York’s Fifth Avenue in 2025.

He is well-known for his charity work and is an ambassador for the Northern Region of Saint Vincent de Paul.

He has also raised money for the Air Ambulance NI and the NHS following a serious car accident in 2019, from which he made a full recovery.

Furthermore, Malachi has worked for major broadcasters, including the BBC, RTÉ, TG4, and UTV. And not only has he presented and hosted the BBCRadio Ulster series, he has received numerous awards for his radio presenting.
