Ask any bride and she will tell you she was nervous on her wedding day. Your best bet for staving off any excess anxiety is to understand its roots and pull them free before you walk down the aisle.
Whether your concerns are related to planning, potential mishaps, or something greater, you can get it all firmly in hand by addressing it head on, leaving you to enjoy your big day without reservations – except for those for the honeymoon!
1. Be Open About It
Speak with your future spouse about the things that may be causing your anxiety. Perhaps you just need help putting things together and are pulled in too many directions. Maybe you have doubts on financial choices or where you will be living after the wedding. Communicating openly and honestly is one of the foundations of a strong relationship. Take away your concerns and you’ll reduce any anxiety you may feel.
2. Just Breathe
Wedding planning is hard work, full of decisions and sometimes at a pace that leaves you little time to just relax and remain calm. If you are getting overwhelmed before the day approaches, chances are, you will find yourself still in that state when it arrives.
Slow down. Put everything aside and just enjoy a quiet meal with your future husband or a night out with friends. Finding some peace in what can feel like a whirlwind and taking some cleansing breaths will revitalize you and prepare you for what is to come. Consider taking a class to keep you focused on something more than the wedding in order to offset the build up to panic.
3. Conquer Expectations
You’ve dreamed of this day for a very long time. You want it to be perfect. Most likely, it won’t be. No matter how much planning is done, there is bound to be something that goes awry. The trick is to know this and take it in stride. Focus on the goal and not on what might trip you up a bit on the way. If you remain graceful during any mishaps that may occur, you’ve managed quite well. Don’t spend so much time worrying about things you can’t control. No one is going to think ill of the fact that you almost slipped on a petal as you walked the aisle. You shouldn’t either.
4. Be Confident
Get out of bed reciting a mantra to yourself that your wedding and you are going to be the best in the land on the day of your wedding. Embrace it as the day unfolds. It is well known that wedding nerves sometimes stem from inadequate self-confidence. Give yourself that pep talk and surround yourself with positive people. Don’t worry about other people’s opinions of your appearance, your choices or anything else. It’s your wedding and all that matters is that it goes off just as you intended.
5. Build An Army
It is easy to get overwhelmed with all the planning that goes into a wedding. Your big day is the time to step back and let others take over as much as possible. Delegate those last minute details to friends and relatives so that you can relax a bit and just focus on the business of getting married to the man of your dreams.
