Getting your best girls in comfortable dresses that make them feel good about themselves is hugely important. Plus, it’s an exciting step in the planning process!
Yet, with fashions changing every season and every year, it can be a challenge to keep up with what looks good and what’s a complete no at weddings for bridesmaid dresses.
That’s why we’ve compiled a list of definite dos and don’ts that allow you the creativity and freedom to let your individuality to shine through. Here are the dos and don’ts when you’re shopping for bridesmaids dresses.
Dos
Keep Yourself In Mind
The bridesmaid dresses are a sign of your tastes so make sure you are happy with the designs. They also have to fit in well with your dress and the whole wedding aesthetic, so try and picture everything together and imagine if they will go well in the photos.
Think About The Budget
Not every bridesmaid will be able to afford the same dress so keep in mind how much you feel comfortable asking them to spend. If you have your heart set on a dress that might be out of their reach, offer to contribute.
Take Body Shape, Complexion and Hair Into Account
If your bridesmaids are pale, or tanned, or of a range of ethnicities, take into account what each of them will look like in the dress. You need to make sure that everyone feel confident in your choice and that it suits them all. Use this as an opportunity to get creative.
Allow Time
Give yourself enough time to plan and find the dresses you want. Settling for second best isn’t an option when it comes to your wedding so browse for as long as you need. Time is also important when it comes to altering the dresses because they will need to be fitted closer to the big day as bodies change all the time.
Don’ts
Be Afraid Of Colour
As long as it fits in with your overall wedding, any colour is good for a bridesmaid dress. Bridesmaids can also wear a range of colours surrounding one theme, like different shades of the same colour or a mixture of nude, pink and blush. Likewise, they could wear the same dress in a different style. For instance, one could be strapless, one could be sleeved, and one could have an over the shoulder strap.
Just Think About The Trends
Trends come and go but classics are forever. Don’t get caught up on the hype train of the current style because often weddings are planned months, if not years, in advance and even in that time the trend can shift.
Ignore The Extras
Take into account what accessories your bridesmaids might wear, what shoes would look good with the dresses you are considering and even how practical wearing simple underwear it is. Some dresses require purchasing extra, suitable underwear so this should all be thought about when turning to your budget.
Forget About Comfort
Make sure the dresses you consider are a suitable length and don’t show too much cleavage. It’s important that your bridemaids feel comfortable and confident. That’s why you should take into account the material and fit of the dress as well.
