Winter may look beautiful, but is the most difficult season for all creatures.
There is little food, water and warmth, and deathly cold spells can be fatal for poor birds unable to replenish their lost energy. But you can help immensely by making the decision to leave food out in your garden regularly.
If possible, feed them first thing in the morning and late afternoon to help the birds restore energy when it’s most needed. Position feeders out of the wind, and in a place where birds can find them easily, and buy a variety of bird seed (such as sunflower seeds, safflower, cracked corn, nyjer and millet), and fruit and nut mixes from reputable sources.
