A popular Sion Mills fish and chip shop – who pride themselves on ‘giving people what they want, exactly how they want it’ – has achieved a glittering second place at a prestigious competition.
Staff at ‘Joe’s Traditional Fish and Chips Shop’ were delighted to learn that they were runners-up in the hotly-contested ‘NI Fish and Chip Shop Awards’ earlier this month.
First beginning trading in 1944, the independent chip shop, situated on the Melmount Road, continue to provides the same top-quality food and service that customers have always associate with Joe’s.
In fact, the local business still remains the only place in the local area to continually peel and chip its own fresh potatoes on-site every day.
Under the management of Louise Hamilton for the last 14 years, Joe’s further uses the best quality ingredients – despite the constant pressure to switch to cheaper, lower quality alternatives.
Distinctive Joe’s Flavour
Their diced chicken is Irish bred, and cooked on the bone which gives it that distinctive Joe’s flavour which people love in their baguettes and chicken boxes. The chip shop also uses 100 per-cent cheddar cheese on all its burgers and chips.
Owner Louise said the award is ‘testament to the hard work of all her staff.
“We’re delighted to have won the award,” she said. “It’s a privilege owning a place with such great history. I’d like for Joe’s to remain true to the values that made it famous in the first place, and I cannot say enough good things about my staff.
“Here, we will not compromise on quality. Our fish remains as popular as ever, and when we advertise cod, cod is what you get. We will continue to work hard and make sure that when they eat at Joe’s, they won’t leave hungry.”
