DROMORE Sports Complex is to be the starting point of this year’s annual mental health walk in the town, in aid of Aware NI.
The event, titled ‘Dromore Sunrise Walk’ will see all attendees assemble outside of the sports complex at 4am on Saturday, May 17, before departing in the midst of darkness – and returning when the sun gently rises on the horizon.
A beautiful piece of imagery that reminds us all that no matter how difficult situations can get, life is always darkest before the dawn – and the sun will always appear.
Walking has also been scientifically-proven to help boost low mood, mood, as well as reducing stress and the symptoms of anxiety.
Aware NI is the depression charity for Northern Ireland – and the only charity working exclusively for people with depression and bipolar disorder.
Relying on dedicated and caring volunteers, Aware NI’s support groups welcome people with depression and bipolar disorder as well as carers for people with the illness. It also delivers mental health and well-being programmes across the North.
A spokesperson from the walk has encouraged everyone interested in taking part to come along.
“Join us for a meaningful sunrise walk to raise awareness and support suicide prevention,” they said.
“Every step brings hope, remembers the lives lost and shows that we care.”
Walkers must register their attendance ahead of time. Please visit website: www.aware-ni.org/sunrisewalk for more information.
