If you are getting married, wedding fashion maths will likely be an important part of your preparation. Budgeting might not be the most exciting part of the process, but it’s pretty essential for most modern brides.
It turns out that the average UK bride is now spending 25% less on her wedding dress than she would have last year, two new surveys have revealed. Online retailer Lyst found that £832 is the new average spend on a wedding dress – down from £1,112 last year.
The recent launch of gorgeous high street bridal collections, such as New Look’s, could have something to do with these results.
Lyst’s survey also revealed that 60% of brides now consider their wedding shoes to be as important as the dress, with a new emphasis on ‘statement shoes’ that could explain the reduced spend.
Wedding planning website Bridebook also conducted a survey that revealed the average total spend on a bride’s wedding outfit this year will be £1,329. 5% are opting for vintage or second-hand dresses as a cheaper alternative, while Lyst deemed Amanda Wakeley, Alice Temperley, Needle and Thread, Self Portrait and Whistles the most-searched-for wedding dress brands this year.
Bridebook says the average couple currently spends £625 on bridesmaid outfits and £577 on menswear, while female wedding guests are spending between £100 and £200 on their outfits this spring, according to Lyst. Zara, MSGM and Givenchy are the most-searched-for labels when it comes to picking a wedding outfit.
And the costs don’t end at the altar. Lyst found that brides are spending an average of £400 on their ‘honeymoon wardrobe’, although this is a small dent in the average total cost of a UK wedding in 2017 which is £26,989, an increase of £487 on last year.
