8 Skin Care Tips For Grooms To Be

Previously, we’ve shared skin care tips for Brides, and we thought it was only fair that we paid some attention to the epidermis of our men-folk too.
For some modern men, cleansers, moisturisers, and hair products will already adorn their bathroom shelves, for others the most effort that goes into their “beauty” routine is a shower and a shave.

With this in mind here are our top 8 skincare tips for Grooms:

1. Wash Your Face
Think this sounds a little obvious? It isn’t. Many men splash their face with water, and some may use a little soap. We’re here to let you know that soap isn’t actually good for your skin. At best it dries it out, at worst it can cause a pesky rash or breakout. Use a proper cleanser to wash your face every day, and exfoliate once per week. Your skin will thank you for it.
2. Drink Water
It’s not just good for your insides, it’s amazing for your skin as well. You should be aiming for eight glasses a day, and more on any days you work out.
3. Don’t Try Anything New
This might sound counter-productive, but stick with me. Once you’ve found a new skincare routine you like (cleanser, moisturiser, exfoliator, and/or face mask included), stay with it, and don’t try any new products in the run-up to your wedding day. You might take a reaction to it, and it will take a while for it to calm down.
4. Speak to the Experts
While your Mrs-to-be might be able to give you great advice, if you’re new to this, and want to get some professional advice, head to a local salon or even a high street drugstore. You can find out what skin type you have (yes, there’s more than one!), and you can get some recommendations.

5. Get Your Stubble On
If you want a shadow or some subtle beard growth for your wedding day, instead of being clean shaven, it’s going to take you a couple of trial runs to get the growth rate just right. Is day three post-shave your best look? Or maybe it’s day five? Figure this out well in advance of your big day so you know what to aim for.
6. Get a Proper Shave
You’ve been shaving for a long time, and I’m sure you do a great job, but if you want to be clean shaven on your wedding day, treat yourself to a proper hot towel shave with a professional. Talk to your barber well in advance of your wedding day, and have a couple of trial runs to see how your skin reacts (and if you like it!).
7. Trim That Beard
If, instead of being clean shaven or having some subtle stubble, you’re going all out with a full beard – ensure you maintain it and get it shaped and trimmed! There are plenty of products out there for men with beards to keep it in tip-top condition.
8. Have a Facial
For some of you, this may feel like a step too far, but trust me – you’ll love it. There are men-only salons, and beauty salons that welcome both men and women, so you won’t feel like the odd one out. Your skin will look AMAZING after a professional facial, and it does wonders for those of you with dirtier jobs. Get those pores cleared out every six weeks or so in the run-up to the big day, with your last one about one week before it.
