DERRY City and Strabane District Council has approved plans for a housing development in Plumbridge.
At a recent Planning committee meeting, members approved the proposed development at Campbell Terrace, which will comprise of five single-storey detached houses, nine detached two-storey houses and eight semi-detached two-storey houses.
Local councillor, Fergal Leonard, welcomed the application, as he said Plumbridge had been “underinvested on for decades”.
Cllr Leonard added, “Should all these house be provided for families in the future, it will undoubtedly be beneficial for local businesses, sports clubs, and schools.”
A council officer said the the site is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, within the settlement limit of the Tyrone village.
“There are existing residential developments to the north of the site, off Meendamph Road, and south of the site at Campbell Terrace and a primary school with an established hedge boundary and playground is located on the eastern boundary.
“Plumbridge Medical Centre is located partially on the western boundary. To the south, on the opposite side of the road, the land is in agricultural use, leading to the Glenelly River.
“To the immediate west of the site, there are open fields used as informal pasture. The topography falls from north to south across the extents of the site.
“There are established hedgerow boundaries with mature trees, conifers and broadleaved trees of varying ages and condition on the boundaries of the site.
“There is a local shop, bars, restaurant, church, sports club and heath centre all within walking distance of the site, and there is an existing footway to the village centre from the site, and the footway will extend into the site.”
Consultations with Governmental bodies, such as Environmental Health and NI Water, were met with no objections.
