Inquest into Strabane man’s tragic death to take place next March

A DATE has been set for an inquest into the death of a Strabane man in a car crash on the A5 in 2021.

Aaron Harkin’s death occurred in December of 2021 when the white van the 25-year-old was driving collided with a cement lorry on the Victoria Road part of the A5 just outside Strabane.

At a short preliminary hearing at Laganside courthouse in Belfast, the date was set for the full inquest into Mr Harkin’s death, which it was said, would be held in a court in the North West over two days beginning on March 30 of next year.

The inquest will determine the circumstances of his death and answer the “who, when, where, and how” questions.

Speaking at the short preliminary hearing, the coroner said that the March date was the closest that she had available at this time and that it maybe able to be moved forward if a another inquest was delayed.

A further preliminary hearing will take place on September 9 when the full amount of disclosure of information is due to be completed.
