Kindness of stranger applauded after donating High Street Voucher

THE kindness of a stranger has been applauded this week after a local man donated his £100 High Street Voucher to help five families in the run-up to Christmas.

Described as an “amazing” thing to do, the man used his voucher to purchase five £20 vouchers from Mitchell Meats in the town. These he then dropped of at the Kindness of Strangers charity shop on Market Street.

Speaking in the wake of the gesture, Jacqueline Williamson from Kinship Care, which runs the local charity shop, said the organisation is indebted to people like this gentleman throught the year.

“A man called into our shop on Saturday,” she explained. “He did not want to leave his name or give us any details about himself.

“The man said he received his £100 High Street Voucher and wanted to support five families this Christmas.”

Jacqueline explained that so far, three of the vouchers have already been allocated to people in need, including an 18-year-old girl who came out of care and is in the process of moving into a home of her own.

Jacqueline continued, “People present themselves in different ways. We’ve had children who have saved their pocket money and brought £10 in and in a way, this is just as significant as someone donating a £1,000.

“People understand that Christmas is a difficult time of the year particularly for children who don’t have their mammys and daddys with them. We are very indebted to the kind strangers throughout the year but especially at Christmas.”

And to the person who used his High Street Voucher to help others, she added, “Thank you for your very kind donation, thank you for supporting local families and thank you for just being amazing.”
