Man charged with assault following incident in supermarket

A 22-year-old male is due in court today following an assault in a local supermarket in the Kevlin Avenue area yesterday at around 2pm.

Another man who was arrested at the scene has been released on bail, whilst a third man remainds in police custody.

In a statement following the incident, a PSNI spokesperson said, “Police investigating a report of an assault in the Kevlin Avenue area of Omagh yesterday, Monday, September 11, have charged a man to court.

“The man, aged 22, has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and is expected to appear before Omagh Magistrates Court today, Tuesday, September 12.

“As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

“A 21 year-old man was who was arrested in connection with the incident has been released on bail pending further police enquiries.
A third man aged 23 remains in police custody at this time.”

It is understood that the assault started inside a shop between two men before moving outside where a third man became involved. One of the men was taken to hospital for treatment.

Just before 2pm yesterday, officers attended the scene within four minutes of receiving the initial report and separated three men involved in an altercation before making the arrests.
