THE heartbroken family of Louise Scott-Gallagher, a young mother originally from Gillygooley, have vowed to keep her memory alive and ensure her daughter Lily and husband Craig remain a central part of their lives, following her death in New Zealand after a courageous fight with cancer.
Louise, aged 44, passed away peacefully at her home in Queenstown, New Zealand, on May 20, surrounded by her loving family.
A celebration of her life was held on Sunday in New Zealand, taking place in the early hours of the morning UK time.
Her three siblings – Andrea Rennie, Diane Duguid, and Robert Scott – who still live in the Gillygooley area, paid a moving tribute, saying their family ‘will never be the same again’.
“Without Louise, our family will never be the same,” they said in a joint-statement to the Tyrone Herald.
“We will never forget her, and we will ensure that we remember Louise in everything we do. Her husband Craig and daughter Lily will remain a significant part of our lives.
“Louise will live on through Lily. This is our promise to her.”
Louise was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023 while still pregnant with Lily. Despite undergoing intensive treatment and enduring the challenges of New Zealand’s healthcare system, she faced the illness with extraordinary bravery.
In May last year, her condition was deemed terminal.
Her family rallied to support her, launching a GoFundMe campaign that raised a remarkable £52,000 to help cover medical expenses. The Gillygooley community also stepped up, hosting a coffee morning fundraiser at Gillygooley Orange Hall last June.
Louise’s parents, the late Andrew and Ann Scott, were well-known figures in the community.
Andrew was a long-standing chair of the Gillygooley Community Association, where both he and Ann were deeply involved for many years.
Louise is survived by her husband Craig and their daughter Lily, along with her siblings and their partners, Robert and Celine, Andrea and Gordon, Diane and Graeme, and her nieces and nephews, Charlotte, Emma, Hannah, Sarah, James, Callum, Daniel and Aaron.
