Man accused of voyeurism charges involving his mother

A TYRONE man has been returned for trial on voyeurism charges which allegedly relate to his mother and another female family member.

The man, who is aged in his fifties, but cannot be named to protect the alleged victims appeared for a committal hearing, accused of observing them doing a private act for sexual gratification.

It is further alleged he installed equipment or constructed a structure with the intention of enabling the offence of voyeurism to be committed.

Offending is alleged to have occurred on dates between September 1 and November 7, 2021 and while the circumstances were not disclosed a defence barrister described the case as “most unusual”.

A prosecuting lawyer told Dungannon Magistrates Court there is a case to answer which was agreed by District Judge Michael Ranaghan.

The accused spoke only to confirm his identity and that he understood the charges against him.

He declined to call witnesses or give evidence on his own behalf at this stage in proceedings.

Judge Ranaghan remanded him on £300 bail to appear for arraignment at Dungannon Crown Court sitting in Newry on May 9.
