Meeting held over proposed new teams at Carrickmore Health Centre

A MEETING has taken place with GPs and staff at Carrickmore Health Centre to explore the potential for funding multi-disciplinary teams (MDTs) at the Mid-Tyrone practice, which serves thousands of patients.

Details were revealed in a letter from Tracy McCaig, interim chief operating officer at the Department of Health, presented at this week’s Fermanagh and Omagh District Council meeting.

It followed a council request for clarification on whether accommodation issues at the centre could affect the delivery of MDT services.

Health Minister Mike Nesbitt recently announced £61 million in funding for MDTs, which enhance GP services by integrating physiotherapists, social workers, and mental health practitioners into practice teams.

Ms McCaig confirmed that the Department’s Primary Care Infrastructure team has begun engagement with Carrickmore Health Centre to agree next steps.

The project will be subject to standard business case approvals and will depend on future capital planning.

She also noted that the Department’s Strategic Planning and Performance Group visited the centre in March as part of wider discussions on accommodation needs for MDT
rollout.

Last month, West Tyrone Sinn Féin MLA Declan McAleer welcomed the Health Minister’s commitment to a new build for Carrickmore Health Centre.

Minister Nesbitt visited the facility in December 2024 and witnessed first-hand the limitations currently faced by staff and patients.
