Men with ‘iron bars’ start brawl in Omagh cinema

CINEMA-goers in Omagh were left shaken after a brawl broke out between around ten men with iron bars.

Police received a report of the incident at around 8.35pm on Monday at Omniplex on the Kevlin Road.

The mother of a woman who witnessed the incident told the UH, “They were in the queue waiting to get popcorn, and then this crowd came in with their masks pulled up over their face, and shouting and roaring.

“They had iron bars, and they seemed to be going after the people in front of my daughter and her friend.”

She added the men “wrecked all around them” as they fought the other men.

The woman, who wanted to remain anonymous, said her daughter “just got missed by an iron bar” amid the fracas.

She says her daughter and her friend were left “very badly shaken” by the ordeal.

A PSNI spokesperson said, “Officers attended and when they arrived at the scene they spoke to a man who was reported to have been assaulted and had suffered a head injury.”

A spokesperson for Omniplex said, “We can confirm that an incident occurred at Omagh Omniplex on Monday evening (February 14) and an investigation is currently ongoing by the PSNI.

“We cannot comment further at this time, however we encourage any witnesses with more information to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 1828 of 14/02/22.”
