Over 200 Covid cases confirmed in the North

Figures released by the Department of Heath have revealed another 220 people have tested positive for coronavirus.

The figures which cover a 24-hour period up until yesterday, Tuesday September 22 detail the second-highest number of daily cases since the start of the pandemic.

In total, there have been 1,078 cases recorded in the past week.

Figures have revealed there have been 35 positive cases of the virus identified in the Fermanagh and Omagh area from September 16 to September 22 – a total of 258 cases in the area.

The number of cases in Derry City and Strabane have skyrocketed with 184 cases identified since last Wednesday.

The total number of cases in the area now stands at 546.

Mid Ulster council area which covers Dungannon has also seen a rise in cases with 34 confirmed in the past week taking the total number of cases to 513.

There were no further deaths linked to Covid-19, meaning the total remains at 577.

In the north’s hospitals, 39 patients have tested positive, six of whom are in intensive care.

Five patients have been placed on ventilation.
