PART of the A5 road near Omagh will be closed during the day for the next three weeks to facilitate resurfacing works.
The £290,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on A5 Curr Road Omagh, between U1311 Meenmore Road and C630 Killadroy Road, started yesterday.
The proposed scheme will include 810 metres of full width resurfacing of A5 Curr Road plus additional patching to strengthen the carriageway at various locations.
A lane closure on A5 Curr Road close to Moylagh Road Junction will be in place each day between 9.30am and 4.30pm daily for three weeks,
During this time there will be temporary speed limits in place on the Curr Road between its junction with Meenmore Road and Killadroy Road.
Traffic will be restricted to 40mph with prohibition of overtaking and a 10mph speed limits at other times, to facilitate convoy working and the use of convoy escort vehicles.
Traffic signs warning that the use of the road is subject to the above speed limit restrictions and to indicate the nature and extent of the restriction will be erected at the roadworks on Curr Road.
A spokesperson for the Department of Infrastructure said the work has been programmed to minimise inconvenience.
“However, while steps have been taken to accommodate local access throughout the scheme, road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions,” added the spokesperson.
The department said the work would be ‘substantially complete’ by October 24, but they will keep the public informed of any change.
