Patients asked to attend Omagh Hospital amid pressures at SWAH

PATIENTS from the South West Acute Hospital were last night told to try and avail of services at other hospitals and use their GP surgery if they could.

The Western Trust advised people who were thinking of using the Emergency Departments to seek alternatives if they could and asked people who could travel to Omagh Hospital to do so .

A Western Trust spokesperson said, “Please find suitable alternative healthcare options available to you, such as your GP Out of Hours or the Urgent Care and Treatment Centre at the Omagh Hospital and Primary Care Complex.”

At one point the Western Trust said that the Emergency Department in South West Acute Hospital, Enniskillen, was extremely busy yesterday evening  and that 49 people were waiting in the Emergency Department with another 22 people waiting to be admitted.

They put out this message on the Trusts social media, “Please only come to ED if you have a medical or mental health emergency.”
