A RESTRAINING order has been made against an English pedlar after he aggressively tried to sell clothes to vulnerable pensioners locally.
Singh Parmjit (56), of Marton Avenue, Middlesborough, was convicted at Omagh Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Parmjit was charged with two counts of acting as a pedlar without a certificate.
The court heard that the offences came to light on December 17, after a district nurse reported to the PSNI that residents’ were concerned about a ‘suspicious man’ arriving at their houses.
Two residents told the nurse how the man would arrive at their house, come inside and display a briefcase full of clothes, persistently trying to sell various items.
The police arrested the man, who made full admissions.
Defence counsel, Joe McCann, told the court that the 56-year-old man was a travelling salesman from England who came to Ireland on occasions to sell clothing.
However, Mr McCann added that, since his arrest, Parmjit said he was never going to return to Ireland.
It was noted that the defendant had a conviction in 2019 for the same offence.
Deputy District Judge Ted Magill imposed a 12-month restraining order in respect of the two residents and fined Parmjit £300.
