‘Permanently’ promoting our sustainable fashion

THE first in-person Permanently Borrowed clothing sale in Strabane last weekend, has been hailed as a major success by its organiser, Lily Foskett.

Over 200 attendees flocked to the event at the Fir Trees Hotel on Saturday, which featured more than 40 vendors selling high-quality used clothing to new owners.

Lily, a Strabane resident and founder of the Permanently Borrowed Facebook group, organised the event to give people an opportunity to sell excess clothing and earn some extra money during the ongoing cost of living crisis. The group, which has grown significantly since its inception, promotes sustainable fashion by encouraging people to resell clothes instead of discarding them.

The event also supported a good cause, with a charity raffle raising £432 for Dementia Engaged and Empowered in Derry and Strabane.

Lily told the Strabane Chronicle she plans to host more of these events and said that they are a great way to promote sustainable fashion choices while also allowing people to raise a bit of extra cash.

Lily said, “The event was a great success, and I couldn’t be more pleased at how it went.

“The Permanently Borrowed Facebook group was set up so people who had excess clothing could sell it and make a bit of many during the cost of living crisis. The event also means that these pieces of clothing, which could’ve ended up being thrown out, won’t go to landfills, and shopping like this is better for the environment. Since the founding of the group, it has grown a lot, and I am so pleased with our first in-real life event.”

Lily added, “I hope we can continue to keep making these events and the charity raffles will continue.”
