Protest tomorrow over recent Gaza atrocities

MORE than 200 people have so far signalled their interest to take part in what is expected to be a major protest in Strabane at the weekend, over the recent atrocities against Palestinians in Gaza.

It is due to take place at the Tinnies on Saturday and is being organised by local independent councillor, Raymond Barr.

“A lot of people have indicated their willingness to attend and it’s important that what is happening in Gaza and the atrocities continue to be highlighted,” he said.

“At the moment, the world seems to be turning a blind eye to the terrible atrocities which are occurring there on a daily basis.

“Over the past number of years, the eviction of Palestinians from their homes to accommodate Israeli settlers has continued. It is ethnic cleansing.

“It is time now for people who are opposed to what’s happening to be more proactive in that opposition by taking part in boycotts and protests.

“People here know only too well what it is like to be oppressed by state forces.”

Speakers at Saturday’s protest including independent councillor, Paul Gallagher and Sinn Féin’s Michaela Boyle.
