Pupils evacuated from smoking schoolbus in Omagh

A SCHOOL bus carrying pupils from Castlederg to Omagh ground to an emergency stop on James Street yesterday (Wednesday) morning when the driver realised that smoke coming from a compartment of the vehicle.

The bus, which was carrying children across the county, came to a halt outside Omagh Methodist Church, whereupon all passengers were safely escorted off the bus.

Commenting on the incident, a Translink spokesperson told the UH the following:

“We can confirm that smoke was noticed coming from the compartment of a service 96 bus travelling from Castlederg to Omagh this morning. All passengers were safely evacuated, and there were no injuries reported.”

Translink said they are unsure of the source of the problem at the moment, but will be carrying out an investigation to find out what caused it.
