Scheme launched to welcome Ukrainian refugees into Tyrone homes

HOUSEHOLDS in Tyrone will be able to welcome Ukrainian refugees into their homes under a new scheme launched today.

The government will pay £350 a month to anyone that takes in those fleeing the Russian invasion.

A website for people to express an interest in being part of the scheme is set to go live at some point today.

The ‘Homes for Ukraine’ scheme is open to individuals, charities community groups and businesses to offer a room or property rent-free to Ukrainian individuals or families escaping the conflict.

The government has said there will be “no cap” on the scheme which could see tens of thousands of people welcomed across the UK.

People looking to take part in the scheme can nominate a Ukrainian individual to stay with them for at least six months. Refugees will be given the right to live in the UK for up to three years and will be able to work and access benefits during that time.

The Executive Office has strongly encouraged people in the North to take part in the scheme to help alleviate the humanitarian crisis.
