The severity and prolonged duration of Storm Isha has caused widespread damage to the electricity network across the North, and many roads across Tyrone remain impassable due to fallen debris.
At present approximately 40,000 customers are without electricity across the NIE network. Two of the worst effected areas were in Tyrone with many people in the Omagh and Dungannon areas losing power.
NIE have said that engineers and emergency crews were mobilised yesterday afternoon and worked to restore as many customers as they could.
Those efforts are continuing this morning.
Customers can report a power or any incidents of damage to the electricity network on the NIE Networks Customer Helpline on 03457 643 643. NIE has said many calls may go unanswered due to large call volumes.
A number of roads across the North remain impassable this morning.
The PSNI have advised travellers have urged road users to exercise ‘extreme caution’ when on the roads.
Chief Superintendent Davy Beck said, “There is also a continued risk of significant debris on the road network as wind speeds remain high throughout Monday.
“In light of this we are urging road users to exercise extreme caution and be prepared for obstructions.
“If you must travel, please bear the prevailing conditions in mind and also be advised of longer travel times for journeys.
“You can also visit trafficwatchni.com/twni/index for the latest updates on the local road network close to you.
“Consider the potential risks before you leave for your destination. Do not place yourself or others in unnecessary danger.”
