Sporting windfall for Holy Cross College

HOLY Cross College has received a £3,000 voucher and bag of sports equipment thanks to a new Sports for Good initiative by Lidl.

The local school was one of 40 others across the North to benefit from the new scheme which was launched in December.

Lidl’s Community Works Sport for Good programme has now delivered funding of almost £300,000 to local sports clubs and schools across Northern Ireland since 2019.

“Mrs Fiona Mullen, parent of pupils Noah and Jude, nominated Holy Cross to receive the £3,000 voucher and a bag of sports equipment from Lidl,” school principal, Clare Bradley remarked.

“The college is delighted and thankful for the nomination and generous funding which will be used to buy additional sports’ equipment.”

“The voucher will be extremely useful in providing additional sports equipment for the college and we are very grateful to Lidl for their generosity.”

Championed by sporting legends including Commonwealth pommel horse champion Rhys McClenaghan, national record-holding runner Ciara Mageean, Paralympic swimmer Bethany Firth MBE and Irish national hockey team captain Katie Mullan, the programme aims to shine a light on mental health and the positive role sport can play.

The Sport for Good programme is just one of Lidl Northern Ireland’s many initiatives to support communities across Northern Ireland. In October 2020, the retailer announced a second extension to its charity partnership with NSPCC Northern Ireland to 2022 and committed to an increased funding target of £600,000 in this time.
