STRABANE man, Gareth Turnball remained cool, calm and collected as he partook in the preparations for this year’s Glastonbury festival.
Gareth’s walk-in fridges, freezers and pop-up cold rooms can be seen scattered generously amongst 200,000 rock and pop fans as Glastonbury begins to get underway.
The Strabane native set up a chiller and freezer hire company in 2017, beginning with only a modest two refrigerated trailers.
And now, he is the refrigerator supplier for the world-famous Glastonbury festival – and as temperatures are expected to soar, his fridges will be a welcomed commodity.
Gareth shared how intense the work involved in the lead up to the festival has been.
“We have been here for the last two or three weeks now and it’s been absolutely flat out,” he says.
“We are building refrigeration around the festival so we’ve got the privilege of keeping all the green rooms at the main stages refrigerated.
“It’s a massive task and it’s a very intense set up but now after that big job we get to enjoy it and have a good time.”
The gates to the Somerset farm location opened on Wednesday and the lineup includes renowned names such as Sir Elton John, Lizzo, Guns N’ Roses, Lana Del Rey, Lewis Capaldi, Queens Of The Stone Age, Rick Astley and Lil Nas X.
Gareth and his teams tireless efforts means that these rock and pop legends can receive cool and refreshing drinks and food before and after performing.
Gareth commented on the extensive amounts of Irish people who make the trip.
“Like last year there’s so many people from Derry here and from all over Ireland – they’re a bunch of troopers and are always great craic,” says Gareth.
