Strule Arts Centre to host Omagh bomb pre-inquiry meeting

FERMANAGH and Omagh District Council (FODC) has approved the hire of the Strule Arts Centre for a preliminary meeting of the Omagh Bomb Inquiry in the summer.

Northern Ireland Secretary of State, Chris Heaton-Harris, established the Omagh Bomb Inquiry, which formally began when the Terms of Reference was published in February of this year.

The next stage is to hold a Preliminary Inquiry meeting, which is to be held in the auditorium of Strule Arts Centre, Omagh.

FODC Director of Community and Wellbeing, John Boyle, told council members the inquiry has booked the premises from Sunday, July 28 to Tuesday, July 30, although future dates may also be required.

Omagh councillor, Stephen Donnelly, proposed the recommendation to approve the hire of the Strule Arts Centre, adding, “I welcome the fact that we, as a council, will be playing a role in facilitating the inquiry into the Omagh bomb.”

The proposal was seconded by Cllr Errol Thompson and passed unanimously.
